Course Description
Mindfulness is a different approach to working with clients than therapy. Most skillful mindfulness teachers have developed and sustained their own practices for at least five to ten years before they attempt to share it with others. Even then, formal certification is suggested. That said, there are simple practices which therapists can share with clients to be of benefit.
Therapists, themselves, also can struggle with secondary trauma and stress. These classes will also provide practices to be with trauma and to the reduce stress and burnout of therapists.
Class One explores the science of mindfulness and when it is indicated and contraindicated for therapy clients. Therapists will learn practices of mindful attention for daily living as well as concentration practices to focus and train the mind.
Class Two focuses on grounding awareness in breath, sound and body sensations.
Class Three introduces mindful walking and moving practices.
Class Four focuses on being with strong emotion, both yours and those you may be taking away from clients.
Class Five continues to explore strong emotions and practices to soothe and comfort them with compassion and expansion of perspective.
Class Six describes the key question of mindfulness, which allow us to challenge stressful thoughts with compassion. This class also includes a discussion of cognitive distortions and biases commonly seen in the human experience.

Come as you are, and be comfortable. Some of our students may be in business attire, and others in workout clothes.
Class is experiential and includes some teaching, as well as practices with discussion. No one is pressured to speak.
We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before class starts. If you are going to arrive late, that is fine, but it is best to be on time to be respectful of the group. We understand that sometimes things happen beyond your control, however, and we would rather have you come late than not at all.
If you are going to miss a class, please inform the instructor. You may attend a make-up class in the next session or you can repeat the entire series again for free. You can also schedule an individual session (for a fee) to make-up the class privately.

There is no need to take notes. Our instructors will provide summaries of each class as handouts (or sent via email).
